2025 Christmas Offering

This year’s “beyond Blacksburg” Christmas offering recipient is the BUMC Ukraine ministry. Over the past weeks, you have read about various needs and our efforts to ameliorate the suffering caused by the war. Today, we share a heartfelt letter of thanks
from Pastor Vladimir, which says: “…our friendship remains alive – and for me, this is truly a miracle of God!”

truly a miracle of god...

Dear Friends from Blacksburg UMC,

First of all, on behalf of the Spring of Life Church I want to say a huge thank you to all of you for your faithfulness to our friendship! After so many years, our connection could have easily faded away, considering the
distance between us and our rare communication. But our friendship remains alive — and
for me, this is truly a miracle from God!

I will not describe all the hardships of our life here in Ukraine under constant shelling — you all see the news. I will only say that we live one day at a time and somehow have stopped making plans for the future… We thank God for simple things — light and warmth in our homes, a night without sirens (when such happens), and for the fact that no missiles orndrones have yet “arrived” at our houses, so we still have a place to live. That is our reality today.

I know that only God can put an end to this war, so we do not put our hope in any leaders of this world. At the same time, war is like a litmus test — it shows who people really are. It reveals both the strong and the weak sides of human nature. To be honest, it’s hard for everyone here now. Not everyone can cope with the stress and its consequences. Four years is a long time to live under daily trials. One can never get used to war — it can’t be ignored. The only way to find strength is to completely entrust your life to God, with all the situations that come with it. Please, pray for us! When we all pray for one another, that’s a tremendous power and blessing for everyone. I want you to know — thanks to your compassion and generosity, someone was able to pay overdue utility bills, buy medicine, visit a doctor, or get essential things that otherwise would have been impossible to afford. Praise God for all of you! I don’t know what we have done to deserve such friends from God!

We bless your families, your children, and your church — may the Lord keep you all safe and strong!

With love and gratitude,
Pastor Vladimir and the whole Spring of Life Church

As Oksana Osypenko said, “During this terrible war, God does not leave us.” Let’s also not leave our Ukrainian brothers and sisters in Christ. You may still donate to this ministry by your usual method, marking it for
“Christmas offering.”
