BUMC’s Christmas offering this year is dedicated to “Blacksburg and Beyond.” Our mission is to cultivate people who follow Jesus in the heart of Blacksburg and beyond. Therefore, our emphasis is twofold—both local and global—with 50% of donations going to each.
Blacksburg - Food insecurity - BIFP and 209 Marketplace
Blacksburg UMC was instrumental in the founding of the BIFP, and we are committed to providing support to help feed our neighbors. Currently, the BIFP feeds over 400 families a month, and that number is growing. In addition, a recent report revealed a third of Virginia Tech students experience food insecurity. Located at the Wesley Foundation at 209 W. Roanoke Street, 209 Marketplace is a donation-based, emergency, local food pantry that provides food, toiletries, and school supplies free to Virginia Tech students in need.
Beyond- Ukraine
For 27 years, BUMC has been in a covenant partnership with Spring of Life UMC in Kyiv. Our church’s support, $254,694 since the Russians invaded Ukraine, has been a boon to our brothers and sisters at Spring of Life United Methodist Church in Kyiv, who have been – and continue to be – devastated by the war: unemployment, extended power outages, shortages, displacement…the list goes on.
