frequently asked questions
We want to be sure everyone is comfortable when visiting our church for the first time. To help, we've put together some FAQs below to make your first visit a great one!
Where do I go?
A: If arriving from 10:30-11:00, join food and fellowship in Whisner Building, which is straight ahead from the WELCOME entrance. The sanctuary is to the right, nursery to the left.
Which entrance do I use?
A: Most people enter through the double doors under the WELCOME awning by the playground. You may also enter the sanctuary through the narthex (front foyer) if you park on Church Street.
Where are the bathrooms?
A: Restrooms are available in the lobby outside of the sanctuary. Additional restrooms are available in the education building and in the Whisner building beside the kitchen. Please see an usher for assistance.
Will I be asked to identify myself?
A: Visitors are welcomed from the pulpit or lectern during worship, but are not asked to stand or identify themselves. During the passing of the peace (greeting your neighbor) is a great time to say you are visiting and allow members to issue a warm welcome.
Is the church accessible?
A: There are numerous accessible parking spots in the parking lot directly behind the church. The doors under the WELCOME awning have a button for automatic opening. There is a lift for wheelchairs to navigate up and down the short series of stairs from the entrance hall to the lobby outside the sanctuary. There is also wheelchair accessible seating. Ushers are always happy to assist.
Where do my children go?
A: Nursery is available during worship services for children ages 0 - 4years old. Children (9:45am-10:45am) and Youth (9:30am-10:15am) Sunday School meet in the education building.
How do I know my children are safe?
A: Staff and volunteers working with children have completed Safe Sanctuary training and background checks. Exterior doors to the education building are either monitored or kept locked at all times. Children are also registered upon drop-off.
What if I want to keep my children with me?
A: Children are welcome in worship. There is a snuggle space at the rear of the sanctuary. There is also a children’s message early in the 11:00 service. Afterwards, children may return to their parents in the pews or attend children’s church.
Am I expected to give?
A: There is no expectation to give. There will be an option during the service to give check or cash to the offering plates the ushers pass around, or an option to give online using the "give" tab.
What kind of music can I expect?
A: At our 8:30am Word & Table service, music is simple yet beautiful - led by voice, piano, & organ. At our 11:00am Sanctuary Service is varied in genre, led weekly by our choir with other vocalists and instrumentalists. This service is also led by our kids worship arts group and orchestra select Sundays throughout the year.
What should I wear?
A: You will find all manner of dress - from jeans, to leggings, to dresses, to suits. Feel free to wear whatever you are most comfortable in.
Where do I park?
A: The parking lot is across the street from the church. The exact address for the parking lot is 202 Lee St Blacksburg, Va 24060.
